If you’re like most people, you use uTorrent to download your favorite movies and TV shows. But there’s a good chance that uTorrent is also installing some unwanted software on your computer. uTorrent is one of the most popular torrenting applications on the market, but it’s also known for installing unwanted software on users’ computers. This is because uTorrent includes EpicScale, a third-party software installer that many users find to be intrusive and annoying. EpicScale is a program that installs various adware and malware onto your computer. It’s often bundled with uTorrent downloads, and it can be very difficult to remove. If you want to remove EpicScale from your computer, here are some tips:

  1. Remove all of the installed programs from your computer using the Windows Add/Remove Programs feature. This will help you identify any unwanted programs that may have been installed as part of EpicScale.

The internet went crazy today when somebody figured out that uTorrent was bundling a piece of crapware called EpicScale that uses your computer to mine for Bitcoins, and according to many reports, was silently installed. The even bigger problem is that it doesn’t uninstall clean, so we’re going to show you how to do that today.

Just like every other piece of crapware out there, this one is included in the uTorrent installer as an optional offer that you can accept or decline. In our testing today, it doesn’t install silently, but uTorrent has been bundling junkware for years — they are even bundling crapware on Mac OS X now.

These are the same tactics used by the entire freeware industry, and while this one doesn’t appear to do something terrible like hijack your HTTPS connections, it does take up a ton of CPU and slows your computer down to a crawl.

How to Remove EpicScale Crapware from Your PC

You’ll want to start by using their uninstaller, which really doesn’t work well at all. But if you don’t use it, you’ll probably have more trouble getting rid of it, so just head to Uninstall programs in Control Panel and click on it and click Uninstall.

Now open up Windows Explorer and go to C:\ProgramData\ and you’ll see an EpicScale folder. Delete this folder.

Note: if you don’t see it, go to Organize -> File and Folder Options and enable seeing hidden files. You also might want to check C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) just in case.

In case you were wondering, that folder has loads of stuff left over even after uninstall. We used the uninstall a couple of times, and it seemed like every time it did something different.

Now you’re going to want to use the WIN + R keyboard shortcut to open up the Registry Editor. Type regedit into the Open box and hit OK.

Navigate down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and find the EpicScale key and delete it.

Now head to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and find the EpicScale key and delete it (this one may or may not be there).

At this point you should probably go uninstall uTorrent and find a better client, because they will probably do this type of thing to you again.

Anybody that bundles crapware in their installer shouldn’t be trusted.
