If you’re the kind of player who likes to keep an eye on your Animal Crossing: New Horizons game progress, then it’s important to know how to remove an inactive player from the game. This guide will show you how to do it in a simple and easy-to-follow manner. First, open up the game and go into the Options menu. There, you’ll find a list of options that includes things like “Accounts.” On this list, select “Accounts” and then “Residence.” Once you’ve made this choice, you’ll be taken to a new screen that will look something like this: Now, select “Residence” and then click on the “Remove Inactive Player” button. You’ll be taken back to the Accounts screen now, where you can see your current players. If there are any active players in your account (which is likely because you’ve been playing for awhile), they’ll all show up in one big list. If there are no active players in your account or if there are only inactive players, then the button will say “Not applicable.” Once you’ve clicked on the button, all of your current players will be removed from the game. Your account won’t be affected either; it just won’t show up in any of the accounts lists anymore.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a great game to share with friends and family, but sometimes an in-person player will place a tent in an annoying spot and never play again. Getting rid of their tent or house involves deleting their Animal Crossing player data. Here’s how to do it.

The Problem and an Alternative Solution

Sometimes, other players on your Animal Crossing island place their tents in inconvenient locations. For example, maybe you’d like to landscape around your house, but another player’s home location is in the way.

If the player plans to keep playing on your island, it is possible later in the game (once certain milestones are met) for the player with the badly placed house to pay a large sum of Bells to Resident Services to move their house to another location.

But if the player with the offending tent or house doesn’t plan to play the game again, then it’s best to consider removing their player data (which the game calls “deleting resident registration”). This will completely delete the player from Animal Crossing and remove their tent or house.

How to Remove a Residence From Animal Crossing by Deleting Player Data

Before doing any deleting, it’s always best to ask the other player if it is OK to remove their account. If they say “yes” or they have no plans to play the game again, then you’re set.

Launch Animal Crossing and start the game as the player you’d like to remove from the game. Make sure you pick the correct account, or you could accidentally delete the wrong player by mistake.

When you get to the title screen, press the “-” (minus) button on the left Joy-Con to go to the Settings menu.

There, you will see Tom Nook and he will give you a warning about changing advanced settings and saying that children should get help from a parent. When Nook asks you what settings you would like to change, select the “Save Data Settings” option.

At the next menu choice, select “Delete Resident Registration.”

Tom Nook will warn you that all memories of this player and their property will be removed from the game. That includes their home, money, miles, and all island residents will forget that the player ever existed.

If you’re OK with the risks, Nook will confirm that you want to proceed. Select “Delete Resident Registration” a second time.

You’ll see one last warning/confirmation screen. Select the “Delete It” option.

The game will confirm that the player’s data has been deleted.

Now, you can press the physical Home button on the right Joy-Con, select the Animal Crossing icon, switch players back to your main account, and the offending tent or house should be gone from the game.
