If you have an iPhone, there are a few ways to remove a payment method from the device. This includes removing the card reader, removing the battery, or even using a computer.
- Remove the card reader: This is the most common way to remove a payment method from an iPhone. To do this, first remove the battery and then unscrew the top of the card reader. Once it’s off, take out the card and put it in another container or bag.
- Remove the battery: If you don’t have a battery, you can try this method instead. First remove any screws that hold down your phone’s screen and then unscrew it completely. Once it’s off, take out your battery and put it in another container or bag.
- Use a computer: If you don’t have access to a battery or screws, you can try using a computer to remove a payment method from an iPhone. To do this, first open up your phone and find one of those little ports on the bottom that are usually used for headphones or charging cables (or something similar). Then plug that into one of those ports on your computer and wait for it to start up (it will probably take some time). Once it starts up, use your computer’s mouse or trackpad to click on one of those little icons next to each payment method name (usually there will be two icons). Then use your computer’s keyboard to type in “remove” and click on that icon. That should take care of removing that payment method from your iPhone!
You Can’t Always Delete a Payment Method
If you only have one payment method on your iPhone, you must not match any of the following circumstances. If you do, you can’t remove your payment method.
You have an active subscription, including an iCloud+ subscription. You’re the family organizer in a Family Sharing group. You have an unpaid balance in your account.
Once you ensure you don’t have any of the above items active on your phone, or you add another payment method, you can proceed to remove the payment method.
Delete a Payment Method on iPhone
To start the payment method removal process, launch Settings on your iPhone.
At the top of Settings, tap your name.
You’ll see an “Apple ID” screen. Here, tap the “Payment & Shipping” option. Your iPhone will then ask you to authenticate yourself using Face ID or Touch ID.
The “Payment & Shipping” page that opens will display all your payment methods on file. To delete a method, tap that method on the list.
At the bottom of the payment method page, tap “Remove Payment Method.”
Tap “Remove” in the prompt to confirm your choice.
And your iPhone will delete the selected way of making payments. You’re all set.
Later, if you want to add a new payment method, you can do so from the “Payment & Shipping” page.
